Harry Ballie, D.D.S., 95, of
Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away on
Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001. He graduated in the 4th Dental graduating
class at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1929. He
was co-founder of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity at Indiana
University. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II.
While living in South Bend, he was a dentist at 535 W. Colfax
from 1929 until retiring in 1985. He was the inventor of the oil
sterilizer for dental handpieces used for many years until the
autoclave systems were developed. He was a member of Temple
Beth-El of South Bend and Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation. He
was also a member of the American Dental Association, the Indiana
Dental Association, and was a 50- year member of B'nai B'rith
Amri Lodge in South Bend.
He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Maida Zoot Ballie. He is survived by his second wife, Ruth
Behr Ballie; two sons, Dr. Michael D. Ballie and Dr.
Stephen K. Ballie; and by six grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Thursday, Nov. 15, at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial
contributions may be made to Temple Beth-El in South Bend. The
Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary, Indianapolis, handled
arrangements.
