Mrs. Mary J. Ballard, 92, of Thomas
Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5 p.m. Friday, May 23,
in Saint Joseph's Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Ballard was born on Aug. 21, 1904, to the union of Joe and
Clara Jones in Baton Rouge, La.
Mrs. Ballard was united in holy matrimony on
Jan. 8, 1922, to Joe Eddie Ballard, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ballard retired from the cosmetology profession as a
beautician and later joined Eastern Star. Mrs. Ballard was a
member of the Nora Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as a
missionary, choir member, Usherboard member, and the Willing
Worker's Board. Left to cherish her memory are one daughter,
Dorothy Mason of Bolingbrook, Ill.; seven grandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Holland of
Tacoma, Wash., and Rosie Lee King of Detroit, Mich.; two
brothers, Henry (Ynetter) Jones of South Bend and Solomon
Jones of Cleveland, Miss.; and two special nieces, Lizzie King
and Juanita Oyetunbi, and one special nephew, Henry Jones,
Jr., all of South Bend.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 31,
in Nora Memorial Baptist Church in Drew, Miss., with burial to
follow at Drew Cemetery. Friends may call in Alford's Mortuary
from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
