SOUTH BEND - Jeffery L. Ballard Sr., 60, passed away at 7:58 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010, in his residence. Jeffery was born on August 26, 1949, in South Bend, to the late James L. and Helen (Fenimore) Ballard Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frost, and by his brother, Herbert Longley. On June 28, 1991, in South Bend, Jeffery married Terri (Reichandter), who survives. Jeffery is also survived by his sons, Jeff Ballard Jr. of Malvern, AR, Jarvis Ballard of Indianapolis, IN, and Joshua Patterson of Kalamazoo, MI; stepsons, Alan Rosetto of Niles, MI, Steven Rosetto Jr., of Hilton Head, S.C., and Patrick Gaska of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; sister, Robbie Conrad of South Bend; brothers, Roger (Eileen) Longley of Jacksonville, FL, and James (Jill) Ballard Jr. of Havelock, N.C; a niece, Candace Mitchell, and family of South Bend, and Deaf "daughter," Jennifer Kutcka. Jeffery was a 1968 graduate of ISD. He was a founder of the Michiana Deaf Club (DMC), a founding member of Deaf Michiana Missionary Church (DMMC), a past board member of Community Services all Deaf (CSAD), a member of Michiana Deaf Senior Citizens at the Battel Center, American Association Deaf Blind (AADB), Indiana Deaf Blind Association (INDBA), past member of the Eagles of South Bend, and Silent Ones Eagle Bowling Team of South Bend. He also helped students of Bethel College with sign language. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A funeral service will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Deaf Michiana Missionary Church, 706 N. Eddy St., South Bend, IN 46617; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
