Amber M. Baker

MISHAWAKA - Amber M. Baker, 89, of Mishawaka, passed away following a lengthy illness on Monday morning, Sept. 24th, in Jordan's Nursing Home, Bridgman, Michigan. Amber was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Mishawaka, the daughter of the late Alvin and Goldie (Adams) Allison. She grew up in Mishawaka where she graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1937.

 

On April 22, 1938, Amber married Joseph L. Baker and the couple made Osceola and later Mishawaka their home. Amber was employed at Bayer Corporation in Elkhart. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and was a good cook and pie baker. Amber did considerable vegetable gardening and grew and sold strawberries. Other pastimes included crocheting, bowling, and conversation with her family and friends. Church was an important part of her life and memberships included the Grace Brethren Churches in Osceola and Mishawaka. Amber was a good alto singer and sang in church choir and duets. She also taught Sunday school. Amber's surviving family includes her three children, James Baker of Bristol, IN, Judy (Clarence) Schroeder of Coloma, MI, and Michael (Theresa) Baker of Monticello, IN; five granddaughters, Deanna (Bill) Milum, Tracy (Chris) Belakovich, Tiffany (Bill) Holdeman, Kara (Zachary) Finch and Denise (Jeff) Yackus; and eight great-grandchildren, Kristi, Kaley, Morgan, Amanda, Taylor, Bethany, Kyle and Ellie. Amber was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her brother, Alvin Allison Jr.; a granddaughter, Teresa Baker; a grandson, Wayne Waugh; and a great-grandson, Garrett Waugh.

 

Friends may spend time with Amber's family today (Wednesday) from 5 to 8 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Denver Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the JRC Activity Fund at Jordan's Nursing Home or to Alzheimer's Services. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
