NORTH LIBERTY - Richard Edward Bailey, 82, of 30219 New
Road, died after an extended illness at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday, July
29, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He retired as a machinist
at the former Bendix Corp. in 1972 after 26 years of service. He
was born May 18, 1926, in Cincinnati, OH, and had lived in North
Liberty most of his life. He is survived by four daughters,
Vickie Schafer of South Bend, Sandra Wisler of
Granger, Shannon Mishler of Mishawaka and Sherry Thornton
of Shipshewana; a sister, Mildred Pohle of North Vernon,
IN; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Bailey
was awarded a Bronze Star for his service during World War II in
Central Europe.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.
2, in the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, with Don Meyer
officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty,
with military graveside services conducted by VFW Post 1954 and
American Legion Post 365. He had been a member of both
organizations. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the
funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to both military
posts.
