SOUTH BEND - John Bailey Jr., 72, of 934 W. Colfax Ave., died at 5:12 p.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes. Mr. Bailey was employed by the former Bendix Corp. He was born July 9, 1923, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On May 3, 1958, in South Bend, he married Mattie Smith Bailey. She survives with a stepson, Donald Smith of Las Vegas; two sisters, Katherine Johnson and Ernestine Bailey, both of Detroit; and a brother, Edward Bailey of South Bend. He was a former member of St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Clark's Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call two hours before services in the funeral home.
