Jesse C. Bacon, 87, of Bremen Highway, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 4:08 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at his residence. Jesse was born on Jan. 8, 1912, in Unityville, Pa., to James E. and Mary (Philips) Bacon, who both have passed away. Jesse was also preceded in death by his brother, Wilmer Bacon; and by six sisters, Kate Robbins, Jenny Garret, Lillian Rishel, Omie Bacon, Ada Bacon and Ida Bacon.
Jesse married Helen Hamilton on Feb. 26, 1946, in Meadville, Pa. Jesse leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife; sons, Wayne (Alma) Bacon of Hughsville, Pa., Douglas (Sharon) Bacon of Mishawaka, Ind., Dale (LuAnn) Bacon of Osceola, Ind.; a daughter, Carolyn S. (Douglas) Freeman of Mishawaka; a sister, Ruth Shafer of Fort Pierce, Fla.; six grandchildren, Gary (Julie), Trisha, Heather, Derek Bacon, Matthew and Steven Freeman; stepgrandchildren, Michel and Angela Marchand; and by two great- grandchildren, Michael and Alexandria Bacon.
Mr. Bacon was employed by Hobart Manufacturing for many years, retiring in 1978. He was also a custodian for the Coalbush United Methodist Church, South Bend.
Visitation for Mr. Bacon will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5, at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Reverend James Davidson will preside over services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the Coalbush United Methodist Church, with an additional hour of visitation prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Hospice.
