Doris J. "Dorie" Bachtel, 76 years old, residing on 29th Street, South Bend, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, South Bend, after a brief illness. Dorie was born on October 28, 1926 in Mishawaka to Marvin F. and Grace (Frederick) Bachtel who both preceded her in death. She has lived in Elkhart County most of her life.
Dorie is survived by two brothers, Robert Bachtel of Granger and Bill Bachtel of Dunlap; two sisters, Helen VanSkyhock of Osceola, and Shirley (Bud) Parker of South Bend; fourteen nieces and nephews; a host of great nieces and nephews; and one aunt, Blanche Slabaugh of Mishawaka. Dorie was a member of the Osceola Church of the Brethren for many years. God and her family meant everything to Dorie as she spent her life selflessly and lovingly helping her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West, Osceola, IN Rev. Donald Carroll, pastor of Osceola Church of the Brethren, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12th, in the Palmer Funeral Home, Osceola. The family suggests contributions in memory of Doris J. Bachtel be made to the American Diabetes Association, 7363 E. 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219 or to the Osceola Church of the Brethren 58362 Beech Road, Osceola, IN 46561.
