SOUTH BEND - Velma Irene Bachman, 83, of Ivy Road in South
Bend, passed away in Memorial Hospital in South Bend on April 19,
2007. Velma was born on February 19, 1924, to the late Dee and
Ida (Scherm) Ulrich in Rochester, IN. She was the
youngest of three children. Velma spent much of her free time
doing artwork. She was a gifted artist. She even recently had her
work displayed in the Niles Senior Center. In her younger years,
she was the secretary at her church and a librarian, but working
at the greenhouse was her passion next to art. Velma is preceded
in death by her parents, husband, sister Ruth Hunter,
brother Pearl Ulrich, and great-grandson Brandon Cook. She
is survived by her daughters, Susan Bachman of South Bend and
Sharon (David) Rhoutsong of Battle Creek, MI;
grandchildren Barbara (Robert) Antus of South Bend, Julie Dazell
of Dowagiac and William Rhoutsong of Kalamazoo and; two
great-grandchildren, Austin Cook and Katelynn Dazell, both
of Dowagiac.
A time of visitation will be held from 1 to
2 in the Mission Hills Memorial Chapel in Niles, where the
funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2007.
Chaplin Scott Labbe will officiate. Velma will be interred at the
Mission Hills Memorial GardensIn lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Senior Citizens Center in Niles. Arrangements have
been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services and
Mission Hills Memorial Chapel.
