SOUTH BEND - C. Caterina Aversa, 93, loving wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at 2:30 p.m.,
Thursday, February 28, 2008, in Memorial Hospital. Caterina was
born on November 17, 1914, in Antonimina, Reggio Calabria, Italy
to Giuseppe and Teresa (Lacopo) Pelle. She had
lived in South Bend since March 25, 1965, coming from Italy.
On August 5, 1937, in Gerace, Reggio
Calabria, Italy, as C. Caterina Pelle, she married Giovanni
Aversa, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1999. Also
preceding her in death were her parents, Giuseppe and Teresa
(Lacopo) Pelle; one sister, Francesca (Pelle) Rulli; two
brothers, Nicola and Salvatore Pelle; and one son-in-law,
Francesco Agostino. Survivors include her daughter,
Beatrice Maria Agostino of South Bend, IN; her son, Domenico
"Dom" (Dawn) Aversa of South Bend, IN; eight
grandchildren, Giuseppe (Kimberly) Agostino, Alba (Jef) Irons,
Rosetta (Gregory) Speights, Caterina (Jude) Komyatte,
Gesumino (Kristin) Agostino, Antonio (Kathi) Agostino; and John
and Mario Aversa; twelve great-grandchildren, Giotto and Anna
Irons, Maria Wyatt, Austin and Brea Agostino, Dominic and
Julian Speights, Franco, Giovanni and Carmelina Komyatte, and
Sophia and Olivia Agostino; one sister, Carmela (Pelle) Mina
of Italy; one brother, Antonio Pelle of Italy; one
brother-in-law, Giuseppe Aversa of Italy; and by several nieces,
nephews, and cousins that reside in Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:00 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2008 in Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Caterina
enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She
had a great sense of humor and a wonderful personality. She was a
strong woman that had an unconditional love for everyone.
