Mervin L. Augstin

Mervin L. Augstin, age 80, of Cougar
Drive, Granger, Indiana, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, April 6,
2002, in his residence. He was born on July 2, 1921 in
Bloomington, Illinois to Irvin and Mabel (Shepherd)
Augstin.
On May 23, 1943 in Bloomington, Illinois, he
married Mabel Sumpter, she preceded in death on October 7,
2000. At the time of his marriage, he was assigned to Wright
Field Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and was honorably
discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.
A graduate of Bloomington High School, and
the University of Michigan, Mervin became a mechanical draftsman
for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Mo., coming to South Bend in
1956 to work at the Bendix Corporation in the Missile Division.
In 1963 he moved back to St. Louis with McDonnel Douglas and then
moved to Granger Indiana in 1977 working with Pi Rod
Incorporated, of Plymouth, Ind. retiring in 1991. Mervin was an
avid fisherman, who had a passion for horses and enjoyed being in
the outdoors.
Mervin is survived by his sister, Hazel Dalton
of Bloomington, Ill., and by a niece, Debra Kruger also of
Bloomington, Ill. And by two great nephews. He is also survived
by special friends, Mary Lou and Roger Johnson of Granger,
Ind. Grateful thanks goes to Dona Keller and her daughter,
Marcie who have been his caregivers for the last two years. He
was a devoted husband, and wonderful friend and he will be deeply
missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Tuesday, April 9, 2002 in the Mausoleum of St. Joseph Valley
Memorial Park with Rev. Don Neely officiating. Entombment will
follow the service. Friends may call just prior to the service
time in the Mausoleum Chapel. Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, is
in charge of arrangements.
