Grace Iola Auer, 88, residing at 206 E. Marion, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Lakeville, Ind., passed away at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the Milton Home, South Bend, of natural causes. Mrs. Auer worked for many years at the South Bend Tool & Die Corporation, and retired from Wheel Horse Products, South Bend. She was born on Sept. 10, 1908, in St. Joseph County, Ind., to the late John and Dessie Weidler, and was a lifelong area resident.
On Nov. 28, 1929, in South Bend, she married Otho Mikel, who preceded her in death on July 11, 1939. On Aug. 10, 1957, she married John Auer, in South Bend, who also preceded her in death on April, 11, 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Lightfoot of Lakeville, Ind., and Mary Alice Fletcher of South Bend; one son, John Mikel of South Bend; one step-daughter, Kathryn Ross of North Liberty, Ind., and one step-son, Larry Auer of South Bend; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, at the Southlawn United Methodist Church in South Bend. Rev. Johnathan Singleton will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Palmer Funeral Home in Lakeville, Ind., and one hour prior to services in the church on Thursday. Mrs. Auer was a member of the Southlawn United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, or to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc.
