MISHAWAKA - Velma I. Atkinson, 87,
passed away at 8:10 p.m. Monday, February, 11, 2008, in her
residence with her loving family beside her. Velma was born on
September 17, 1920, in Kendallville, IN, to Walter and Emma (Schlosser)
Friend.
On August 31, 1940, in Mishawaka, as Velma
I. Friend, she married William H. Atkinson. William
preceded Velma in death on December 3, 1989. Velma is survived by
her daughter, Carol (Ed) Gill of Mishawaka; four
grandchildren, Troy (Becky) Gill of Mishawaka, Amy (Clint) McCall
of Osceola, IN, Lee (Joel) Eberlein of Mishawaka and Susan
(Jay) Hertel of Osceola; seven great-grandchildren,
Benjamin Gill, Samuel Gill, Joshua Gill, Elizabeth Gill, Zoie
McCall, Aubrey Eberlein and Owen Eberlein. Velma was preceded in
death by her brother, Donald Friend. Velma was a member of Queen
of Peace Catholic Church and a member of the Our Lady Circle with
the church.
Family and friends may call on Thursday,
February 14, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel,
3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at
6:00 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at
10:30 a.m. Friday, February 15, in Queen of Peace Catholic
Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka. Father Dan Scheidt will
officiate the services, with burial to follow at Fairview
Cemetery, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to Southern Care Hospice, National City Bank
Building, 310 West McKinley Avenue, Suite 340, Mishawaka, IN
46545.
