Services for Rev. Robert J. Askins CSC, 67,
who died Monday at Ventura (Calif.) Community Memorial Hospital,
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame,
with burial in Holy Cross Community Cemetery, on the campus.
Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Friday at Moreau Seminary where
a wake will be at 7:30 p.m.
Rev. Askins was born Feb. 24, 1921 in Grand
Rapids, and made his first profession in the Congregation of Holy
Cross on Aug. 16, 1941 in Rolling Prairie. He was ordained to the
priesthood June 2, 1948. He served in the missions in Bangladesh
(the East Pakistan) until 1958; from 1958 to 1964 he worked for
the Foreign Mission Society of Holy Cross in mission promotions
and the returned to Bangladesh for 5 years; from 1969 to 1970 he
served as associate pastor at St. Bernards Parish,
Watertown, Wis.; 1970 to 1973 at St. Franics Xavier Parish,
Burbank, Calif.; from 1974 to 1984, Hispanic apostolate of San
Diego and chaplain at John Muir Hospital, Walnut Creek, Calif.;
and was chaplain to Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Catherine by
the Sea, in Ventura, Calif.
