David J. Arpasi, Sr. (April 16, 1928 - March
22, 2002).
David J. Arpasi, Sr., 73, of Marlowe
Way in Granger, IN, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2002.
He was born on April 16, 1928 to the the
late David A. and Lottie (Zmudzinski) Arpasi in South Bend,
IN, and has lived in the area most of his life. One sister,
Annette DeLater also preceded him in death.
Mr. Arpasi retired from Bendix in 1980 as a
Materials Control Manager, after 27 years of service. Since 1987,
he had worked as a Materials Control Manager for Bertrand
Products, Inc. in South Bend. Dave was also employed as a funeral
assistant with Kaniewski Funeral Homes, Inc.
On May 14, 1946, he married Frances H. Karaszewski.
She died on November 11, 1986. On July 21, 1989, he married
Darlene M. Paris in South Bend, IN. She survives, along
with one daughter, Bobbie (husband Michael) Mattasits of
Indianapolis, IN; one son, David J. Arpasi, Jr. of Danville, IN;
one stepdaughter, Valerie J. Paris of Granger, IN; one stepson,
Glen P. (wife Susan) Paris of Spring Arbor, MI; nine
grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Evelyn
(husband John) Bencsics of South Bend, IN and Sherry
(husband Gene) Chrzanowski.
Mr. Arpasi was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran
of W.W.II, where he had achieved the rank of sergeant. He
participated in occupation of China until January 25, 1947.
He was a member of St. Pius X Parish, where
he was an usher and Eucharistic minister at the church; member of
the American Legion in San Francisco, CA; and a member of the
University Club of Notre Dame. David was very active with the
Knights of Columbus, where he was currently serving as State
Council Director. He also had served as Past Grand Knight, Past
Faithful Navigator, Former District Deputy, St. Joseph Valley 2nd
& 3rd Degree Team, Former State Retention Chairman, and
Former State Program Director. He was a member of Fr. Stephan
Badin Council #4263 and Fr. J.A. Nieuwland General Assembly #242
Forth Degree.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am
Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev.
William C. Schooler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph
Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-9pm Tuesday, March
26, 2002 in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South
Bend, IN and from 9-10am Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in St. Pius X
Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. A combined Parish
and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 7:00pm Tuesday
in the funeral home.
