July 4, 1923 -- April 13, 2005

Ervin Arelt, 81, of South Camden Street, South Bend, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

He was born on July 4, 1923, in South Bend, to Stanley and Katherine (Hamerla) Arelt, who preceded him in death along with a brother, Stephen Arelt. On August 24, 1946, in South Bend, Ervin married Gertrude Buczynski, who passed away on July 7, 1992.

Surviving Ervin are a son, David E. Arelt of South Bend; daughter, Marcia A. Goodman of Palm Desert, California; and two grandchildren, Jason and Kristina Goodman.

Ervin was a member of St. Adalbert Church. He worked for Studebaker for 21 years and retired in 1985 from AM General. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and received the Bronze Star for service in Central Europe.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today, April 15, 2005, in the Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. St. Joseph Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
