SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Fannie Applewhite, 105, passed away
peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2008. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Love Applewhite; a daughter, Katie Palmer;
and eight siblings. Fannie was born second of 10 siblings to
Arthur and Katie Elliot-Love (three children) and
stepmother, Sally Burt-Love (seven children), on April 3,
1903, in Decatur, Alabama. She journeyed north to reside with her
aunt, Lucy Elliot-Hunter in Gary, Indiana, then to
Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, and lastly to South Bend as a contented
resident of Rabbi Albert Shulman Senior Apartments and a
dedicated member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.
In 2000 she was admitted to the Suburban
Rehabilitation Center, Homewood, Illinois, to acquire special
professional support and access to family care. Mrs. Applewhite
is survived by granddaughters, Lilliette Irby-Bailey
(Michael) and Octavia (Steve) Houser; three
great-grandchildren, Robert (Sandra) Irby, Kimberly
(Joseph) Young and Jadeia Houser; two
great-great-grandchildren, Eboni Irby and Joseph Young; one
sister, Emma Brown; caregivers: nephew, Homer Swader, and
wife, Dorothy Swader; many other nieces and nephews; and a host
of friends and admirers.
Visitation and brief services will be held
on Friday, May 30, at 1:00 p.m. in Alford's Mortuary where
arrangements have been entrusted. Interment will follow at
Highland Cemetery.
