SOUTH BEND - Robert Jesse Lawrence Antus, born May 9, 1945
in Manhattan, New York City, New York, passed unexpectedly,
October 8, 2008 at the age of 63 in his home in Elmhurst, IL. He
was the loving father of Rob Antus, dear brother of John
(Marjorie) and Paul (Linda) Antus and fond uncle of Elizabeth and
John Paul Antus. He will be remembered by his second family. His
loving partner of 26 years Valayda Nibert and her son
David (Nancy) and daughters Leisa (David) and Holly (Peter). He
was like a grandfather to Wesley and Megan Nibert, children of
David and Nancy. Robert received his undergraduate degree from
Notre Dame University and received masters degrees from the
University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Loyola
University. Robert received the Bronze Star serving his country
in Viet Nam. He was a dedicated English Teacher for 34 years at
Morton East High School in Cicero, IL. He also taught at New
Trier High School in Wilmette, IL. A man for all seasons, he was
a prolific reader, published author, fabled story teller, self
professed philosopher, actor, Catholic Church choir member, track
coach, equestrian, camper, family poker player, and collector of
antiques, films, and collectibles. Most of all, he was an avid
Notre Dame Football fan who only missed 1 home game in 36 years.
Robert really appreciated his family, friends, colleagues, and
students. He will be missed by all. "You are a better man
than I (Us), Gunga Din."
He has been laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of Notre Dame University, Notre Dame, IN. May he rest in peace.
