SOUTH BEND - Mary M. Anderson, 79, of South Bend, passed away on
Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 1:35 p.m. in the Hospice House
after an extended illness. Mary was born December 22, 1930, in
Mishawaka, IN, and had resided in the South Bend area her
lifetime. On September 16, 1950, as Mary M. Downhour, she married
Robert E. Anderson, who preceded her in death on November 7,
2003. She has one surviving daughter, Allison K. (Richard) Racine
of North Liberty, IN; and one surviving son, Thomas L. Anderson
of South Bend, IN. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Ryan D.
(Elaine) Racine of South Bend, IN, and Daniel R. Racine of North
Liberty, IN, whom she loved and cherished. She was preceded in
death by her loving husband; her parents, Floyd T. and Nellie M.
(Lusher) Downhour; and her loving daughter, Beth Ann Anderson on
February 18, 1985. Two brothers also preceded her in death,
Eugene and Thomas Downhour. Mary was a loving wife, mother and
grandmother who loved spending time with her grandsons. She
especially loved camping and was a member of the Good Sam's
Camping Club. She loved church and was a member of the Sumption
Prairie United Methodist Church. Mary graduated with the class of
1949 from Riley High School. "When I grow old and no
longer can see, I'll fold my hands and rock-a-bye me. Til my
mind's eye, so peacefully, envisions a time that used to be! And
the sun will shine again." Visitation hours will be
from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010, in the Hanley
& Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at
West Ireland Road/S.R. #23, South Bend. Funeral services will
take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Sumption
Prairie United Methodist Church, located at 24535 Roosevelt Road,
South Bend, IN, where family and friends may visit one hour prior
to services. Pastor Jan Demick will be officiating. In lieu of
flowers, make all memorial contributions to the Sumption Prairie
United Methodist Church, to the Green Twp. Lions Club or to
Hospice of St. Joseph County. The HANLEY AND SONS "Southwest
Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and
extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the
Anderson family.
