Elsie S. Ammeter, 86, of West Catalpa, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka. Mrs. Ammeter was born on Aug. 22, 1913, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of the late Camiel, Sr., and Lillian (Mastagh) De Keizer.
On July 24, 1948, in Mishawaka, as the former Elsie De Keizer, she married John Ammeter, who survives. She is also survived by a brother, Camiel (Marian) De Keizer, Jr., of Mishawaka; two nephews, Kenneth (Julie) De Keizer and Dennis (Dorothy) De Keizer; three nieces, Judith Huys, Carol (Joseph) Mammolenti and Cheryl Ann (Robin) Perkins; and by 16 great-nieces and nephews.
Elsie and her husband John were owners of the former 2x4 Restaurant in Mishawaka for 16 years before closing the restaurant in 1962. Elsie also worked for Garrett White Spot for five years before retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, St. Anthony's Harvest House, Howard Park Senior Citizen Club, and was active at the Battell Center in Mishawaka. Elsie's hobbies included golfing and playing bridge and euchre with family and friends, and reading.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Wake prayers will be at 3:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
