SOUTH BEND - Louise J. Ames, 60, of
Orchard Heights Drive, died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in her home of
natural causes. Mrs. Ames was employed by Brandywine Schools
System, Niles, as a teacher and administrator, and was a co-owner
of Jamil Packaging Inc. She was born Nov. 23, 1933, in New York
City, and lived in South Bend for 22 years.
On June 7, 1953, in New York City, as Louise
J. Solomon, she married Ira N. Ames. He survives with two
daughters, Joy R. Ames of Chicago and Andrea B. Ames of Palmyra,
Va.; a son, Michael D. of East Lansing; and a brother, Robert H.
Solomon of New York City. She was a graduate of City College of
New York, and a member of Temple Beth-El, Hadassah, and B'nai
B'rith Women. She was a member of the board of directors of
CANCO, Cancer Society of St. Joseph County, and Friends of Snite
Museum.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Temple
Beth-El. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Forest G. Hay
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions
may be made to Literacy Council of St. Joseph County or CANCO.
