Donald C. Amberg, 65, of Orchard
Street, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 4:05 p.m.
on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Amberg was born on
April 23, 1935, in South Bend, to Carl and Marie (DeMeyer)
Amberg, and was a lifetime area resident.
On Aug. 6, 1955, in Bayonne, N.J., he
married Eleanor M. Sell, who survives. He is also survived
by a daughter, Kimberley D. (Patrick) Higgins of Lino
Lakes, Minn.; three sons, Michael S. Amberg of South Bend,
Derrick T. Amberg of Elkhart, Ind., and Barry G. (Danette) Amberg
of Niles, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan, Erin and Kevin
Higgins, Tiffani, Brittani, Bryce, Zachary, Devin, Casey, Keeley,
Kallie and Conner Amberg; a brother, Edwin Amberg of Mishawaka,
Ind.; and by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Amberg retired as a service technician
for General Electric after 30 years service. He loved camping and
was a member of Indiana State Campers, NCHA National Campers,
Good Sam Club, FMCA, Bounders United, Great Lake-a-Roos, Bounders
of America, Classics Chapter and Fulltimers Chapter. He enjoyed
bowling, horseshoes, NASCAR (especially Dale Ernhart Sr.), Notre
Dame football, and snowmobiling. His favorite household chore was
driving his lawn tractor. He was also a U.S. veteran, serving
during the `50s, and was a member of the First United Methodist
Church, South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, Nov. 4th, in the WELSHEIMER FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 17033
Cleveland Road, with Rev. Daniel Berger officiating. Cremation
will follow at Michiana Crematory. Friends may call from 3 to 7
p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be
made to Down's Syndrome Research or to Stroke Research.
