MISHAWAKA - Warren V. "Skip" Alwine, 78, of Mishawaka,
passed away on June 9th in his residence. Skip was born on March
14, 1932, in South Bend, to the late Howard and Almira (Brunner)
Alwine. On October 21, 1950, in Lawrence, Michigan, he married
Laura Schuh. He worked most of his life as a truck driver. He
served in the Naval Reserve and belonged to American Legion Post
308 where he was a member of the Color Guard. In his younger
years he was an avid stock car driver. Skip loved family
gatherings, at which he showcased his great sense of humor. Skip
is survived by his wife, Laura Alwine of Mishawaka; their four
sons, Skip Alwine, Carl (Linda) Alwine, Gary (Lorraine) Alwine
and Tom (Monica) Alwine; and two daughters, Cheryle (Michael)
Kline and Caroline (Larry) Hayes. He was a grandfather of 21, a
great-grandfather of 21 and a great-great-grandfather of one.
Skip is also survived by a brother, Douglas Alwine. He was
preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Jane Alwine, a grandson,
Caleb Alwine, and by three brothers. Friends may visit with the
family today, June 10th, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Bubb
Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior
to services in the church. A service celebrating Skip's life will
be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11th, in United Pentecostal
Church, 4609 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, with Rev. Kenneth
Mendenhall officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in
Skip's name to any of the following charities: Hospice of St.
Joseph County, to the Valley View Rehabilitation Center or to
United Pentecostal Church.
