Robert M. Alwine, 81, of Pheasant Run
in Mishawaka, Ind., died at 7 a.m. Monday, June 7, in his
residence. He was born in South Bend, Ind., on July 15, 1922, to
Merle and Geraldine Alwine, who preceded him in death.
Robert married the former Grace M. Hurst in
South Bend on Jan. 29, 1949. Grace died June 4, 1996. He was also
preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Jack Alwine. He is
survived by two daughters, Beverly A. (Fred) VonHolt of
Palmetto, Fla., and Cynthia L. (Larry) Strombeck of
Mishawaka; two sons, Larry L. (Linda) Alwine of Mishawaka and Ted
G. (Sue) Alwine of Mishawaka. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Robert retired in 1984 from B&G
Construction as a carpenter after 30 years of service. He was an
Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He
belonged to VFW Post #360 of Mishawaka and Carpenters Union Local
#413 in South Bend.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
today, June 9, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main
St., Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home
at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, with Fr. Barry England officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
