Rose M. Allsop, 86, passed away after
a lengthy illness at 1:26 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, in her home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Plymouth, Ind., to Clarence and
Verna (Smith) Richard. A farm homemaker, she lived
in North Liberty, Ind., for 58 years after moving from Lakeville,
Ind.
On Nov. 28, 1935, after attending Madison
High School, she married William Allsop in Lakeville. He died in
1984. She was also preceded in death by a son, Eugene; her
parents; two brothers, Adrian J. Richard and Roger Richard; and
by two sisters, Germaine Goff and Alice McAndrews.
Rose is survived by six daughters, Lillian (Jim) Salyer of
North Liberty, Ruth Ann (Chuck) Watkins of Killeen, Texas,
Cynthia (Keith) Rosenbaum of LaPorte, Ind., Sandra Kay
(Shawn) Bridwell of Tyner, Ind., Colleen (Mike) Wertenberger
of South Bend, Ind., and Theresa (Art) Sears of Lakeville;
seven sons, Richard (Janice) Allsop of North Liberty, Gaylen
(Jeanette) Allsop of South Bend, Alfred (Sue) Allsop of North
Liberty, Wayne (Judy) Allsop of North Liberty, Neal (Leann)
Allsop of North Liberty, Dennis (Janis) Allsop of Walkerton,
Ind., and Robert (Linda) Allsop of Walkerton; six sisters,
Virginia Warner of South Bend, Jane Heim of
Oceanside, Calif., Clara (George) White of Vero Beach,
Fla., Marcella Richard of Vero Beach, Cecelia (Wayne) Pfledderer
of South Bend and Annette (Rich) Peterson of Anamosa,
Iowa; two brothers, Albert (Celine) Richard of South Bend and
Ralph (Sue) Richard of Tucson, Ariz. She also had 51
grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Rose was a member of
St. Patrick Church, Walkerton, and will be remembered for her
great meals and wonderful gardens with many flowers.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel,
3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. A Rosary service will be
held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic
Church, 63568 U.S. 31, Lakeville, with burial at Southlawn
Cemetery, South Bend. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph
County-Marshall County Hospice.
