SOUTH BEND - Gerard W. Allen, 78, passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Gerard was born on December 2, 1931, in Jamaica Queens, NY, to the late John and Helen (Neller) Allen. On August 31, 1969, he married Barbara (Eckstein), who preceded him in death on July 18, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Marguerite (Bill II) Bauer of South Bend; two grandchildren, Brayden and Madylin Bauer, both of South Bend; and by his sister, Mary Beth (Joe) Adornato of White Plains, NY. Gerard was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Sienna Parish at St. Jude Catholic Church. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Gerard loved spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed playing music and collecting stamps and coins. A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road, South Bend, IN 46614, where family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.
