South Bend Tribune 1/11/2003 (Excrpts)
Brought forth in pains, Beatrice Schoby
Allen, daughter of George and Willie (Gunby) Schoby, was born
July 6, 1916, and departed this life on Jan. 8, 2003. As a child,
Beatrice (Pet) confessed Christ as her personal savior and was
baptized at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Mangham, La. After
she completed school, she married her childhood sweetheart,
Albert (Sug) Allen. They lived a farmer's life for several years
and later moved to Toledo, Ohio, where they lived a healthy life
until his death. (While in Ohio, she was united with the Third
Baptist Church.) Living as a widow, Beatrice suffered a stroke in
1982. After several weeks of being hospitalized in Toledo under
the guardianship of her brother, Huey P. Schoby who she
referred to as 'that's my mama's baby'. When Beatrice's
was stable enough to travel by ambulance, the family transferred
her from Toledo Hospital to Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind.,
where she underwent rehabilitation for several weeks.
Being disabled, Beatrice was moved to
Cardinal Nursing Home and remained there for 15 years. During the
last three years of her disability, Beatrice enjoyed the
atmosphere of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation where she
participated in field trips and all in-house functions (bingo,
cookie baking, etc.) Most of all, she loved going to church mass.
Through all the years of Beatrice's
disability, she never missed a family reunion or family function.
Beatrice will be missed by many as she impacted the lives of
individuals that she knew and well as those in passing. Her
spirit lives on and the memories will always be cherished.
Beatrice is survived by one brother, Huey P. (Bettie) Schoby
(South Bend); six sisters, Hattie Allen, Mary (Henry) Stevens,
