NORTH LIBERTY - Wallace M. Aldrich, 91, of North Liberty, passed
away at 3:53 p.m. Monday, December 28th in his residence after an
extended illness. Mr. Aldrich was born on January 15, 1918 in
Cando, ND, and resided in the Michiana area his lifetime. On June
12, 1949, in North Liberty, IN, he married the former Pearl M.
McGwin who survives. Also surviving are two sons; Douglas G.
Aldrich of Westville, IN, and Gregory A. (Brenda) Aldrich of
North Liberty; a sister, June L. Wiltfong of South Bend; two
grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lori) Aldrich of Indianapolis, IN, and
James O. (Chris) Aldrich of North Liberty; and three
great-grandchildren all whom he loved and cherished. Wallace was
preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey O. Aldrich on May 30, 1970,
and two sisters, Velma B. Wharton and Shirley Konicky; and by a
brother, Paul D. Aldrich. Mr. Aldrich retired in 1982 as owner of
Aldrich Construction Company. He was a veteran of the US Army
serving during WW II during the Battle of the Bulge. He was
assigned to the 8th Calvary Recon. Troop which was the first unit
into the Wobblin Concentration Camp at the end of the war.
Wallace was a very quiet man who loved his family dearly as they
did him. He was a devoted Christian. He was a member of the North
Liberty Church of the Brethren and a Life Deacon of the church.
The family request; PLEASE no flowers, make all memorial
contributions to Helping Hand Fund of the Church or to the Center
for Hospice, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 or to the
Morris Cemetery Association. Visitation hours will be from 9 to
11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 2nd in the North Liberty Church of the
Brethren. Pastor Carol Pfieffer officiating. Burial to follow at
Morris Cemetery, Walkerton. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral
Home "Walkerton Chapel" handled arrangements and extend
its deepest sympathy to the Aldrich family.
