SOUTH BEND - Richard Hale Abbott, 78, passed away at 6:30
a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, in his home surrounded by family.
Richard was born on May 7, 1929, in Mishawaka, to the late
Durward and Myrtle (Doutle) Abbott.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42
years, Mary Lou (Honicutt) Abbott of South Bend; seven
children, William Sykes of South Bend, Regina Abbott of
Granger, Donna Silber of Laveen, AZ, Rebecca (Guy) Smythe
of Charleston, SC, Kathryn (Gary) Gitchell of Niles,
Carolyn (Bob) Moyer of Berrien Springs and Paul (Cynthia)
Sykes of Niles; and by eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Richard had been a lifetime resident of the
Michiana area, graduating from Mishawaka High School. He proudly
served his country with the U.S. Coast Guard, becoming honorably
discharged in 1953. He will be remembered as a very charitable
man who loved nature and the outdoors. He loved woodworking with
his hands and creating items. He retired from I/N Tec in 1995.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m.
Nov. 30, 2007, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley
Highway, Osceola, with two hours of visitation prior to the
services. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
Osceola. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
the American Cancer Society, 601 West Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN
46545.
