SOUTH BEND - Marlow "Wayne" Abbiehl, 88, of South Bend,
passed away Thursday morning, December 24, 2009 in Healthwin
Specialized Care Facility. Wayne was born October 20, 1921 in
Bremen, a son of the late Raymond A. and Edna (Suter) Abbiehl. On
May 21, 1941 in Warsaw he married Myrtle M. Geisler. The couple
lived most of their married life in South Bend. Wayne was
employed at Studebaker in South Bend, the South Bend Street
Department and retired from the St. Joseph County Highway
Department where he was a mechanic. He ushered at the South Bend
Speedway. Wayne was a member of the North Liberty Church of the
Brethren. He enjoyed helping others by using his skills as a
mechanic. Wayne's surviving family includes his wife of 69 years,
Myrtle; a son, Michael (Shari) Abbiehl; a daughter-in-law, Carol
Abbiehl; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two
great-great grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by a son,
David Abbiehl; a brother, Arnold Abbiehl; and by two
grandchildren. Following Wayne's wishes there will be no viewing
and a private burial will take place in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 29, at 4 pm in
the North Liberty Church of the Brethren, 201 East Market Street,
North Liberty, with Pastor Carol Pfeiffer officiating. The family
will receive friends in the church Tuesday from 3 pm- 4 pm prior
to the service. Contributions in Wayne's memory may be given to
North Liberty Church of the Brethren. Envelopes will be available
at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Thallemer,
Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street,
Mishawaka.
