From the 1885 History of Steuben County, Indiana page 707-708:
David Davis, section 4, Jackson Township, owns and resides on the farm where
his father, Abner Davis, settled in 1836. Abner Davis was born in New
York, December, 1795. His wife, Polly Bardsley, was born in Fairfield,
Conn., in 1798, and came to Steuben County in company with Jonas and Benjamin
Twichell and their families. They settled on the land which is now
in possession of their children. The father died March 20, 1843, and
the mother Feb. 28, 1881, aged eighty-three years. David Davis was
born in Chenango County, N.Y., in 1830, and was six years of age when his
parents moved to Steuben County. He has made agriculture his life-work
and has been successful, owning now one of the finest farms in the township.
He was married Dec. 25, 1866, to Frances Morse, a native of Geneva, N.Y.,
daughter of John and Susan Morse, who moved to Steuben County in 1863, and
still reside in Jackson Township. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have three children
-- Horace, Lola, and Susie.
