This is the Lake Gage School as
it
appeared in 1960. The school house was closed in 1922 and was
sold
to Daniel Danning in about 1927. Daniel Danning passed away in 1940.
His
wife raised their 7 children there with no running water. Mrs. Danning
lived
there until 1964. The school house was originally clapboard sided. The
building
is now only partially intact and not in salvageable condition. An
interior
photo from approximately 1896 can be seen under the name of Lloyd
Johnson
in Steuben County Ancestor Photos.
This information was obtained
through
the research of Mr. Bill Howarth and Kay Lash of the Steuben County
Library.
