STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1903, page 8, column 5 CHARLES H. WESTERN, 04 Aug 1832 - 30 Aug 1903 Charles H. Western was born in Wayne county, Ohio, Aug. 4. 1832, and died in Ashland, Wis., Aug. 30, 1903, aged 71 years and 26 days. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Whysong, in Angola, Dec. 1888, and lived in Hudson, Ind., until about four years ago they moved to Lake Gagebie (Gogebic), Ontonagon county, Mich., where they resided until his death. He leaves a wife and one son to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. He was a member of the 74th Regiment in the late Rebellion, and was a member of the Masonic lodge at Hudson. He died in the hospital at Ashland, Wis., and the remains were brought to Hudson, and buried in Circle cemetery, Sept. 2, 1903, by the Masonic lodge, Rev. McBride officiating. They are buried at O-HUD, Steuben County, Indiana. Note: There is no Lake Gagebie in Ontonagon County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it is Lake Gogebic.
