DANIEL VANWYE Daniel VanWye, son of Mr. and Mrs. Enos VanWye, was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, Jan. 15, 1834; died at his home, Pleasant Lake, Ind., Jan. 20, 1917, aged 83 years, and 5 days. Sept. 23, 1858, he was united in marriage with Sarah McGrew, and to them were born three children – Cornelius, of Elkhart; Mrs. Alice Camp, of Pleasant Lake, and Melvina Hathaway, of Sturgis, Mich. . He united with the United Brethren church in 1862, and has always remained a faithful member. He was a soldier in the Civil War, having enlisted on March 10, 1865, in Co. I, 195th Ohio Infantry. In 1886, he removed to Pleasant Lake, Ind., transferring his membership to the United Brethren Church there, and he became truly a pillar of the church. His consistent exemplary Christian character and life made a deep and lasting impression on the entire community for righteousness, and the Kingdom of Christ. He served the church as class leader for many years, and was always found in his place at prayer meeting. He was a teacher in the Sunday school, possessing a wonderful knowledge of the bible. “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, write: ‘Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth. Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.” He is survived by his wife, three children, three grandchildren, two brothers, and three sisters.
