RUMMEL, 11 May 1826 - 30 Nov 1899 (picture included with obit) The subject of the above sketch was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, May 11, 1826, and moved with his parents to Steuben county, Indiana, in September 1844, where he continued to reside until his death, which occurred Nov. 30, 1899, at Metz, Indiana, aged 73 years, 7 months and 19 days. On Dec. 28, 1851, he was married to Clarinda A. Benjamin, who was his faithful companion for twenty-six years until called to her eternal home. Sept. 29, 1878, he was again married to Sarah Wane, who survives him, and who did much to make his home life pleasant. In 1851 he became a member of the Christian church, and lived a faithful life until called to his reward. Mr. Rummel was the oldest of a family of sixteen children, twelve boys and four girls, nine of whom survive him. Six of his brothers served during the war of the rebellion, two of them dying in the army and one died after his return home from the effects of wounds received in the service. He was trustee of his township, and was county commissioner from 1886 to 1892. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Daniel P. Rummel, 11 May 1826 - 30 Nov 1899, was the son of Henry, (03 Jun 1802 - 08 Jul 1892) and Elizabeth (Pirkey) Rummel, (20 Sep 1806 - 03 Aug 1875). He married 1st, Clarinda A. (Benjamin) Rummel, 23 Apr 1832 - 20 Dec 1877, the daughter of David and Emily P. Benjamin. He married 2nd, Sarah (Wane) Rummel, born 01 May 1839, no date of death in book. Daniel and both wives are buried in Metz Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Brother: George Rummel, 07 Jun 1826 or 1827 - 1916, married Cynthia (Burch) Rummel, 07 Feb 1839 - 1930, daughter of Chester and Polly (Davis) Burch. Buried at South Scott Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Sister: Sarah E. (Rummel) Crowell, died 24 Feb 1880, aged 22 years and 2 days, married S. L. Crowell (no information in Cemetery book). Sister: Albina V. Rummel, died Aug 1879. (child) Brother: George Rummel, died 02 Jan 18_7, aged 2 years, _months, 12 days. (child) Sarah, Albina, and infant George are buried at Hamilton Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
