STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 1885, page 4, column 4 HANNAH (KETHCUM) POWERS, 19 Aug 1813 - 09 Mar 1885 Hannah Ketch(a)m was born in Rensselaer county, New York, August 19, 1813, she being the eleventh in a family of twelve children. He mother dying when she was but fourteen years of age and her father marrying again, she went to Ontario county, where five years later she was married to Clark Powers. They came at once to Steuben county and she has resided here ever since. Mrs. Powers was the mother of six children: Hannah M. who died in 1879; Joanna, wife of Dr. H. D. Wood; William E., who died in infancy; Josiah, who died at Chattangooga, Tenn., in 1864; Stephen, who is practicing law in Angola, and Elnora, wife of Dr. J. J. Cameron, of Hamilton. Over a quarter of a century ago - in May, 1859, her husband died. For several years past, Mrs. Powers has been residing with her children. A few months ago she came to Angola and remained with her daughter, Mrs. Wood, until her death, which occurred on Monday morning, March 9, 1885. Many years ago she united with the Methodist church of which denomination she ever remained a consistent member. She was a quiet, unassuming woman, with strong convictions of right and wrong, and was respected and beloved by a large circle of friends. The funeral occurred yesterday, short services being held at the residence of Dr. Wood, after which the remains were taken to the Powers church, where the sermon was preached by Rev. I. M. Woolverton, pastor of the Methodist church in Angola. Clark and Hannah Powers, and Hannah Powers Jenks are buried at Powers Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Clark and his wife, Hannah, were part of the Powers caravan who were the first white settlers in York Township. CHILDREN: Hannah Maria Powers, 04 Apr 1842 - 18 Feb 1879, buried at Powers Cemetery. Joanna (Powers) Wood, 07 Nov 1844 - 16 July 1916, married Hugh Dudgeon Wood, M.D., 28 Jun 1834/35 - 17 Dec 1918, son of Joseph Wheeler Wood and Sarah (Farnham) Wood. Joanna and Hugh are buried at Powers Cemetery. William Edwin Powers, 29 Dec 1845 - 07 Oct 1846, buried at Powers Cemetery. Josiah Harper Powers, 18 Sep 1847 - 05 Aug 1864, died at Chattanooga, Tenn., killed in the Civil War, buried at Powers Cemetery. Stephen Arad Powers, 28 Dec 1851 - 01 Aug 1913, married Isadora A. (Ferrier) Powers, 27 Apr 1857 - 05 Aug 1938, daughter of William Ferrier and Olive Marie (Thompson) Ferrier. All of these people are buried at Circle Hlll Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Eleanor "Top" (Powers) Cameron, 07 Mar 1854 - 30 Jul 1886, 1st wife of John Franklin Cameron, M.D., 08 May 1855 - 1944, son of John and Mary (Carlin) Cameron. Elnora gave birth to John Clark Cameron on 16 Jul 1886. Elnora died 30 Jul 1866 and infant John died 21 Aug 1886. John Franklin Cameron, M.C., Elnora and infant John Clark Cameron are buried at Powers Cemetery.
