STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, May 5, 1875, pg. 3, col.5
DIED
Powers-April 15th, 1875, of cancer in the breast, at
Northwest, Williams Co., Ohio, Clara L. Jones (formerly
of East Milan) wife of Edwin Powers, aged 39 years.
She sleeps, and never more
Shall pain distort her brow;
Her sufferings all are o'er,
Her white hands folded now.
A husband's tender care
Strove long to keep her here,
And children, sweet and fair,
Clung to that mother dear.
Brothers' and sisters' love
Would fain have stayed the dart
Stern Death, his power to prove,
Had aimed at Clara's heart.
But she, with patient smile,
Bore all with meekest grace,
And murmuring not the while,
Passed on to death's embrace.
No more we'll meet thee here,
But on that better shore
Thou'll greet us, sister dear,
Where partings are no more.
