STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1900, page 4, column 2 ORLOW W. PARISH, 20 Mar 1822 - 20 Dec 1900 Orlow W. Parish was bon in Ontario county, New York, March 20, 1822, and died in Angola, Indiana, Thursday morning, Dec. 20, 1900, aged 78 years and 9 months. When about seven years of age deceased moved with his parents to Lorain county, Ohio. In his early young manhood he attended school in Bedford and in Cleveland. In 1843, when just about of age, Mr. Parish first came to Steuben county. In 1846 he was united in marriage at Fremont with Mrs. Sallie Tillotson Dunham, who died four years later. In 1852 he married Margaret J. Jordan, who was his faithful companion through many years, preceding him by less than three years to the home of God. Shortly subsequent to his second marriage Mr. Parish moved to York State but later returned to this county and settled in Fremont. In 1859 he was elected county recorder and moved to Angola, since which time this town has been his home and its highest interest the object of his constant thought and prayer. In the year 1869, under the ministry of John Aylesworth, Mr. Parish united with the Christian church and for over thirty years his faithful life has been interwoven with the cause of Christ in this community. This worthy man could say with the Psalmist of Israel, "I was glad when they said unto me let us go unto the house of the Lord." When a young man Mr. Parish joined the Masonic fraternity, and he was happy in this association with men and took pride in anything looking to the order's advancement. Surviving this aged man, whose work was so well done, are four sisters, two daughters and one son. Of the sisters, one, Miss Fela W. Parish is of our own community, and the children, Mrs. Estella Carey, Miss Lillie and William F. Parish are all of us. To them the sympathy of a wide circle of loving friends is extended, and yet the sorrow that accompanies such a death soon yields to joyous hope. The cheer of the promises of God outweighs the sadness of the separation God has brought. A ripened sheaf has been gathered into the garner of God. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church, under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, Elder C. S. Medbury officiating. ADDITIONAL INFORMATIION: Orlow W.
