Melissa M. Mills
Melissa Ann Mortoriff, daughter of Isaac and
Angeline
Mortoriff was born April 18,1855 in Steuben Township, Steuben
County,Indiana,
and passed away September 18,1920,at the age of 65 years and 5
months.
The daughter of a farmer, she spent her entire
life
on a farm. Twenty years ago she was converted to the Master's cause
and
lived a consistent christian life since that time, ever ready to
assist
in the Master's cause in every way she could.
She was united in marriage to George Mills,
February
22,1876. To this union four children were born; Elmer E. Mills, John
H.
Mills, Mrs. Jennie Rocela Holton and Edward F. Mills, who preceeded
his
mother in death. The husband and three children, one brother, W.C.
Mortoriff,
of South Bend,Ind. survive. Two sisters and three brother preceded
her
in death.
Mrs. Mills always enjoyed good health until a few
years ago she was stricken with pneumonia, which proved too much for
her
physical strength. A very patient suffered, always bearing in mind
the needs
of others, she passed to her reward. In her passing the family loses
a loving
wife and mother, the church a loved and devoted worker, and the
community
one of its best citizens.
The great esteem in which she was held by all is
expressed by a letter from a niece, Mary Mills, to the bereaved
husband,in
which she says " I am so glad to remember that Melissa was a
christian.What
a comfort it is to know that someday we can meet her where parting
will
never come. Some way it is hard to realize that it can be
possible,but we
know God's hand will some day or other beckon us and may we just as
ready
to go as we feel she was. I hope to profit by the noble
example she has left to all of us and God helping me I will meet her
some day."
The family wishes to thank all for their
generous,
open-hearted deeds the beautful offerings of flowers and the words
of kindness
which are appreciated so much at a time like this.
