STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1903, page 1, column 1 ELIAS MALLORY, 30 Jan 1822 - 13 Jan 1903 Elias Mallory, son of David and Cynthia Mallory, was born in Rutland county, Vermont, Jan. 30, 1822, and died at his home in Jamestown township, Steuben county, Indiana, on Jan. 13, 1903, aged 80 years, 11 months and 13 days. Deceased came to Jamestown with his parents in October 1836, and here grew to manhood and lived to old age, experiencing the trials and hardships of a pioneer life. In the year 1842, he carried mail on horse back from Coldwater to Fort Wayne, with only a trail to follow through the woods. In November, 1843, he purchased the east one-half of the southwest one fourth of section sixteen, Jamestown township, and from its native state he carved his home, as a monument of his industry and perseverance. April 2, 1846, he was married to Rosilla A. Havens who departed this life in August, 1890. He is survived by one son, George E., two brothers, three sisters, two granddaughters and a host of other relatives and friends. For a number of years, he was a member of the Baptist church. Later, he united with the Congregational church at Jamestown, and had great hope in the life to come. His life has gone out and his presence will be missed in the home and community. He was laid to rest in the Jamestown cemetery. Funeral at the home, Jan. 15, Rev. J. R. Preston, officiating, assisted by Rev. T. L. Dyer. Elias is the son of David Mallory, 14 Feb 1794 - 14 Oct 1864, and Cynthia (Collins) Mallory, 30 Nov 1790 - 26 Oct 1868, daughter of Nathan and Keziah (Carpenter) Collins. David and Cynthia are buried at Jamestown Cemetery. CHILDREN: George Elias Mallory, 13 Sep 1854 - 11 Feb 1920, on 03 Nov 1878, married 1st, Louisa M. (Weage) Mallory, 05 Apr 1857 - 04 May 1896. On 14 Feb 1899, married 2nd, Luella M. (Clark) Mallory, 16 May 1874 - 24 Dec 1960, daughter of Edward and Mary Jane (Barnes) Clark. George and his wives are buried at Jamestown Cemetery. Cynthia (Collins) Mallory and Huldah (Collins) Havens are the daughters of Nathan Colllins and Keziah (Carpenter) Collins.
