STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 1901, page 4, column 3 MARK LaDOW, 15 Oct 1811 - 29 May 1901 Mark Ladow was born in Montgomery county, New York, Oct. 15, 1811, and died at his home at Salem Center, Indiana, May 29, 1901, aged 89 years, 7 months and 14 days. In Cayuga county, N. Y., March 6, 1833, he united in marriage with Margaret Tanner, from which union three children were born, of whom two survive, Harriet Ladow Bryan, for many years a resident of Montana and Frank, the youngest, residing here. Jeannette, the eldest, died in childhood. Margaret Tanner Ladow, the wife and mother, died at Salem Center, Nov. 14, 1887, since which time the aged father has lived with his son Frank. In 1840 Mr. Ladow and wife moved from Cayuga county, New York, to Crawford county, Ohio, where they lived until May, 1845, when they located in Salem township on the east half of the southwest quarter of section two, now a part of the A. E. Emerson farm. In 1846 this farm was sold and the family located in Milford township, LaGrange county, where they resided until 1863, when they returned to Salem township and located on sections nine and ten at the "Center." Mr. Ladow and wife united with the Baptist church in the state of New York soon after their marriage and on leaving were granted letters and while they lived held their relations to that church. In politics Uncle Mark Ladow was a Republican and though quite conservative, no one ever questioned his political integrity or his loyalty to the government during the civil war. He had a wide circle of friends and was well known in this community as a good citizen and neighbor, and an affectionate husband and father. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Rev. Neal, of Angola, officiating. Frank LaDow, 1844 - 1917, married Nancy M. (Courtright) LaDow, 1850 - 1929. All are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 1901, page 4, column 2 "WILLS PROBATED"--On June 26 the will of Mark Ladow, late of Salem, was probated. Deceased gave 35 acres of land in section 9 to his daughter-in-law, Nancy Ladow, to his daughter, Harriet Bryan, about two acres at southwest corner of section 10, and to his son, Frank Ladow, all the balance of his farm in section 10, containing about 57 acres, and all the personal property.
