STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDFNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1904, page 1, column 6 EBENEZER JOHNSON, 10 Apr 1811 - 02 Feb 1904 Ebenezer Johnson, one of the sturdy pioneers of Steuben county, was born in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, April 10, 1811, and died at the home of his daughter, Adalaide Castell, Feb. 2, 1904, aged 93 years, 9 months and 21 days. Deceased came to Angola in 1844 and bought a piece of government land southwest of Angola, cleared up the farm and made it his home until death, with the exception of a few years spent in Angola. For the past four years he has been a helpless invalid, being unable to stand or walk alone, and much of the time was a great sufferer. He often expressed a desire to go home and be at rest, yet endured his affliction with christian patience. His wife died Sept. 4, 1870. One daughter, Mrs. Adalaide Castell, survives him. He married 2nd, Harriett (_______) Johnson who died 15 Jun 1882, age about 40. All of them are buried on the same plot at the Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. The 1880 United States Census, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana, Family History Library 1254312, NA Film Number T9-0312, page number 331D, lists Ebenezer as 66 and Harriett as 50. One daughter from the 1st marriage, Adalaide/Adelaide (Johnson) Castell, on 20 Feb 1867, married John Castell, 05 July 1837 - 23 May 1914. They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. John was the son of John Castell, 03 Aug 1814 - 15 Oct 1892, and Hannah (Stanley) Castell, 26 Sep 1810 - 05 Dec 1885.
