STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 1901, page 1, column 8 HANNAH ELIZABETH (MULLENIX) WELLS HUBBARD, 10 Feb 1846 - 05 May 1901 Hannah Elizabeth Mullenix was born February 10, 1846, at Butler, DeKalb county, Indiana, and died at her home in Angola, Steuben county, Indiana, Sunday morning, May 5, 1901, aged 55 years, 2 months and 25 days. In February, 18534, deceased came with her parents to Steuben county, where they settled on a farm five miles west of Angola. June 21, 1860, she was married to W. Warren Wells and to this union eight children wee born, of whom five survive; Mrs. Gertrude Quirk, of Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. Vina Smiley, of our own community, Thomas Wells, of Montana and Mrs. Luella Gamble and Williams Wells, of Decatur, Alabama. Her first husband dying in 1876, a little over five years later deceased was united in marriage with William C. Hubbard, who survives her and to whom the heartfelt sympathy of our people goes forth. In addition to the aged husband and children above referred to, two brothers, Stephen, of Decatur, Ala., and Daniel, of this county, are numbered within the sacred circle of the bereaved. In December, 1867, in a meeting held at Flint by Elder Sutton, she obeyed the Gospel of Christ and from that time forth was dominated by the one thought of service toward God. Of late years she has literally given life to the children who today united in calling her blessed and who will bear the impress of her untiring labor through all the years. Patiently bearing more than nine weeks of grevious suffering, she at length fell asleep to awake in a land where such as she feel perfectly at home. Her last words were of Christ and her last messages were appeals to the living whom she loved, to obey the Gospel that was more than life to her. The funeral service at the Angola Christian church was largely attended by friends and coworkers of the deceased. The W. C. T. U. attended in a body, as did the children of the Junior and Intermediate Endeavor societies, in whose interests deceased had toiled so faithfully. The loving tribute of the children was a marked feature of the occasion. The funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Elder C. S. Medbury, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Sowle Settlement cemetery.
