STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 22, 1901, page 1, column 7 HENRY HOVARTER, 24 Nov 1835 - 15 May 1901 Henry Hovarter was born in Wayne county, Ohio, Nov. 24, 1835, and died at his home in Steuben county, Indiana, May 15, 1901, aged 65 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was married Oct. 26, 1858, to Catherine Hartman, and to the union were born five sons, Isaiah, William, John, Ira and Emanuel, who with his companion survive him. Mr. Hovarter was a man of worth to the church and community, and his principles and convictions were backed by his money, for at no time did he say "I am a United Brethren," and then close his purse to the needs of the church. He could not bear a sham, and a profession on the part of any one that was not followed with good works, was for him sufficient cause to part company. For over fifty ears he gave testimony in honor of Jesus, and under the labors of Rev. C. E. Mason, constructed a beautiful house of worship on his farm from which the funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. H. C. Foote. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Henry and Catherine (Hartman) Hovarter are not listed in the cemetery book. www.familysearch.org lists Henry as born 24 Nov 1836 but the age stated in the obit agrees with the age stated in the obit. His parents are listed as John and Nancy (Weirick) Hovarter. The URL for this Individual Record has a symbol that is not on the computer keyboard so I cannot list it. Son: Isaiah Hovarter, 1859 - 1937, is buried at Old Hudson Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. "Cemeteries of Steuben County, Indiana, 1990" by Audree Siebel Lewis, Vol. I, page 920.
