WILLIAM HOUGH, 20 Mar 1807 - 09 Sep 1880 DIED: HOUGH---In Pleasant Lake, September 9, 1880, William Hough, aged 73 years, 5 months and 20 days. The deceased who was an old and respected citizen of Steuben county, was born at Charlotte, Vermont, March 20, 1807. In April, 1812, the family removed to Delaware county, Ohio, then a wilderness. He removed to Pleasant Lake, this county, in 1845, where he resided until his death. He was the oldest of a family of thirteen children, of whom two brothers and three sisters are still living. He was married May 7, 1835 to Mary Barney, who still survives him. They have had five children, of whom one son and one daughter are still living. The departed was a true neighbor and a good citizen. From 1853 to 1857 he filled the office of sheriff of the county, having been elected two terms. Mr. Hough had many friends-the large number who followed the remains to their last resting place showed the respect they had for him. The funenral was held on Friday at the Pleasant Lake church, Elder Hickmott officiating. The remains were interred in Circle Hill cemetery, Angola. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Sarah was the daughter of John and Lucy Barney. The above obituary clearly gives her name as Mary but her obituary gives her name as Sarah Ann. CHILDREN OF THE MARRIAGE: Helen (Hough) Linder, born about 03 May 1837 - 12 Aug 1875, on 10 Nov 1858, married Henry Linder, 29 Jun 1832 - 17 Aug 1905. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. William Hough, born about 1837, no further information. George D. Hough, born about 1841, the 1880 United States Census, George Hough, Steuben Township, Steuben County, Family History Library Film #1254312, NA Film #T9-0312, page #303C, shows him living next door to his parents with his wife, Elizabeth, and their 4 children and a niece. Laura M. (Hough) Kelley Linder, 20 Apr 1849 - 05 Mar 1911, on 06 Nov 1867, married 1st, Eugene Kelley, 1843 - 1920. Laura is buried at Circle Hill Cemetery and Eugene is buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. The 1880 United States Census, William Hough, Steuben Township, Steuben County, Indiana, Family History Library Film #1254312, NA Film #T9-0312, page #303C, shows Laura Kelley at the age of 31 as divorced and living with her parents and her 2 children. On Sep 1880, Laura married her 2nd husband, Henry Linder, 29 Jun 1832 - 17 Aug 1905, who was the widower of her deceased sister, Helen. Henry is buried at Circle Hill Cemetery in the Hough plot.
