STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, 1904, page 1, column 6 WHELAN HEADLEY, 30 Jun 1832 - 13 Mar 1904 Whelan Headley was born in Columbiana county, O., June 30, 1832, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Williamson, in Angola, Ind., March 13, 1904, aged 72 years, 8 months and 12 days. His early life was spent in Mahoning and Williams counties, Ohio, and then his father's family moved to York township in Steuben county, Indiana. He was married in 1855 to Mary J. Norrick. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Two sons and the daughter died in infancy. After many years of illness his wife was called from life in January, 1894. One son, Samuel W. Headley, two brothers and four sisters survive him. His last illness of two weeks was one of great pain, that was borne with prayerful patience. He was a member of the Methodist church and his funeral services were conducted from the church by his pastor, Rev. A. G. Neal. Whelan was the son of Reuben Headley, 18 Nov 1795 (1794 per familysearch) - 29 Sep 1860. He is buried at Powers Cemetery. His mother was Louisa (Harper) Headley, 08 Jan 1808 - 12 Feb 1894. She died in Mishawaka, St Joseph, Indiana, and is buried at Eutzler Cemetery, Penn Township, St. Joseph County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Asa and Nancy Harper. SIBLINGS: John J. On 24 Jun 1883, he married Harriet (Hood) Headley, 23 Mar 1860 - 14 Jun 1939. They are buried at Powers Cemetery. Joseph Headley, (twin) 30 Mar 1830 - 02 Feb, year unknown, died at Indian Territory, Oklahoma. He married Sarah (______) Headley, born about 1841. Mary A. (Headley) Merritt Gilbert, (twin) 30 Mar 1830 - 14 Jun 1897, on 23 Oct 1851, married Daniel Merritt who died 02 Dec 1861, age 34 years. On 01 Sep 1864, she married Charles M. Gilbert, who died 25 May 1882, aged 42 years, 7 months and 20 days. They are buried at Powers Cemetery. Charles was the son of Joseph and Sina Gilbert. Melvina Headley, born and died on 21 Jul 1835 in Columbiana, Ohio. Nancy J. (Headley) Williamson, 25 May 1836 - 15 Sep 1905, married George Williamson, 06 Aug 1840 - 22 Dec 1929, son of Cornelius and Elizabeth (Hunsinger) Williamson. They are all buried at Powers Cemetery. Charles Alexander Headley, 02 May 1837 - 11 Dec 1897, on 25 Oct 1859 in Steuben County, Indiana, married Mary Ann (Brunk) Headley, 22 Oct 1840 - 03 Jun 1918. They died in Williams County, Ohio, and are buried at Rogers Cemetery, Williams County, Ohio. Hannah Rebecca (Headley) Cross, 28 May 1839 - 17 Apr 1889, on 15 Nov 1857 in Steuben County, married Leroy William Cross, 20 Dec 1838 - 05 May 1912. Hannah is buried in Ludington, Mason County, Michigan. On 26 Apr 1888, Leroy married 2nd, Elen R. (Sowles) Cross, 1856 - 1891. The name Ellen was corrected to ELEN in the cemetery book. They are buried at South Scott Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. The Marriage Records of Steuben County, Indiana, 1837 - 1899, show the license was issued to Leroy Cross and Ellen R. Sowles on 26 Apr 1888. The date of Hannah's death is noted as 16 Apr 1889 so there is no way of knowing if this is the correct date of death as he married Ellen before her date of death. Or they could have been divorced. Louisa (Headley) Phillips, 18 Nov 1842 - 17 Jun 1915, on 01 Feb 1859 in Hillsdale County, Michigan, married Melvin R. Phillips, 17 Aug 1826 -27 Apr 1907. They are buried at Eutzler Cemetery, Penn Township, St. Joseph, Indiana. Melvin's 1st wife was Ruth A. (Cook) Phillips whom he married in 1852. Reuben Clarence Headley, 02 Oct 1844 - 27 Jun 1914, on 22 Feb 1871 in Washington, Kansas, married Anna Elizabeth (Hoagland) Headley, 23 Nov 1854 - 20 May 1924. They died in Graham, Los Angeles, California, and were buried at Inglewood Cemetery, Inglewood, Los Angeles, California. Anna was the daughter of Samuel and Abigail (Roberts) Hoagland. Levi Headley, 02 Aug 1847 - 11 Feb 1852, was buried at Powers Cemetery. Sarah Jane (Headley) Fox, 20 Aug 1849 - 24 Jan 1931, on 20 Jun 1866 in Steuben County, Indiana, married John Thomas Fox, Dec 1839 - 1929. They are buried at Washington City, Washington County, Kansas. Emma Roselia (Headley) Myers, 02 Apr 1853 - 29 Nov 1913, on 11 Feb 1870 in Hillsdale County, Michigan, married Daniel Myers, 01 Aug 1852 - 10 Aug 1923.
