Hammond was born in Green county, Ohio, May 23, 1833, and died at his home near Hamilton, Ind., Oct. 20, 1901, aged 68 years, 5 months and 5 days. In early life he moved to Defiance county, where in 1854 he was united in marriage to Eleanor McCurdy. To them were born nine children, two of whom, with his companion, who died March 26, 1897, have preceded him to the better land. Nov. 25, 1898, he was married to Mrs. Lana Swift, who was a faithful companion until death broke the bond. Soon after the death of his first child he gave himself to his Savior and united with the M.
