STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 1903, page 1, column 6 JANE (CARLIN) HALL, 11 Jan 1824 - 15 Mar 1903 Jane Carlin was born in Wayne county, Ohio, Jan. 11, 1824, and died at her home in Pleasant Lake, Ind., March 15, 1903, aged 79 years, 2 months and 4 days. She was the second of a family of thirteen, all of whom lived to maturity and nine of whom are still living. In 1840, deceased was united in marriage with Henry Hall, who died in 1886. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom, together with a large circle of grandchildren survive her. One son, Leander, was killed at the battle of Shiloh, while John, also a soldier of four years experience, died at Millersburg, Ind., four years ago. The one daughter who died was Ella, wife of Lyman Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Hall came to this county in 1848, first locating at Metz from which point they removed to Pleasant Lake some twenty years ago. When a young woman of perhaps 17, deceased united with the Church of God, with which she retained her membership until she came to this county where she became a member of the United Brethren church, continuing loyally to her Christian profession clear to the end of life's pilgrimage. Funeral was held at the Pleasant Lake U. B. church, Tuesday afternoon, March 17, Elder C. S. Medbury officiating. Burial at Metz. Jane was the daughter of Robert, 1806 - 1868, and Sarah (Perkey) Carlin, 1811 - 1865. CHILDREN: Leander Hall, 1842 - 1862, member of Co. A, 44th Ind. Vol., killed in the Civil War at the battle of Shiloh, buried at Mount Pleasant. John Hall, died in 1899 at Millersburg, Indiana. Mary Ella (Hall) Johnson, 06 Jul 1861 - 26 Mar 1880, on 04 Jul 1878, married Lyman T. Johnson, 1854 - 1926. Mary Ella is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Lyman is buried with his 2nd wife, Sarah (McGrew) Johnson, 1866 - 1945, at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Sarah was the daughter of Joseph and Anna McGrew. (Carlin) Cameron, 05 Feb 1823 - 15 Nov 1895, on 25 Feb 1841, in Toledo, Ohio, married John Cameron, born in Aberdeen, Scotland, 21 Dec 1814 - 01 or 04/ Apr 1878, son of George and Janet Cameron. John and Mary were buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. John and Mary were the parents of Dr. John Franklin Cameron whose 1st wife was Elnora (Powers) Cameron, daughter of Clark and Hannah (Ketchum) Powers of York Township. Clark and Hannah Powers are buried at Powers Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Sarah H. (Carlin) Cameron, 01 Feb 1826 - 27 Apr 1905, in March 1843, married William C. Cameron, born in Aberdeen, Scotland, 22 Oct 1817 - 19 Oct 1893, brother of John Cameron who married his wife's sister. Sarah and William are buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Robert Vance Carlin, 26 Feb 1834 - 16 Jun 1916, on 31 Mar 1868, married Maria N. (Kinney) Carlin, 18 Nov 1831 - 06 Apr 1906, daughter of Joseph J. (died 1853) and Emily (Hitchcock) Kinney (died 1878). Robert and Maria are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery.
