STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, April 24, 1895, page 5, column 5 DIED at Fremont, Ind., Easter morning, April 14, 1895, Emeline C. Shutts, wife of Charles W. Gray, aged 50 years, 7 months and 4 days. Deceased was born at Townsend, Sandusky county, Ohio. She was the only sister of three brothers, but one of whom, Joel, survives her. May 3, 1866, she was married at Albion, Orleans county, N. Y., to Charles W. Gray, then a resident of Kinderhook, Mich. To them were born three children, Frank D., Minnie F., and a son who died in infancy. Mrs. Gray had been a sufferer from cancer for about four years, though she had only been confined to her bed for about nine months. The funeral was held at the family residence in Fremont, April 16, 1895, Rev. J. R. Bonney officiating, and the remains laid to rest in Jamestown cemetery. Mrs. Gray began her christian life in her earlier years, and, at the time of her death, was a member of the Congregational church at Angola. A committee from the Crescent Literary society, whose meetings she had so often attended, and a delegation from the King's Daughters of Angola, of which society she was a member, were present at the funeral and presented floral offerings.
