STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, 20 Apr 1881, p.4, c.5 PHEBE ANN (SEARS) GOLDSMITH, 08 May 1806 - 14 Apr 1881 Goldsmith---At the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Germ Brown, in Angola, April 14, 1881, Mrs. Phebe Ann Goldsmith, aged 74 years, 11 months and 6 days. Phebe Ann Sears was born at Hudson, N.Y., May 8, 1806, and was married at Palymra, in that state, in August, 1833, to Harvey H. Goldsmith, who died October 15, 1869 , in this place. For fifteen years after their marriage they lived in Palmyra, at the end of which time they removed to this county, settling on a farm near Orland, where they lived most of the time until 1868, when they came to Angola, making their home with their daughter, Mrs. Germ Brown. Mrs. Goldsmith was the mother of five children, four of them being still living, Mrs. Alice Lovejoy and Mrs. Germ Brown, of Angola, Mrs. Omar Clark, Pleasant Lake, and Edwin Goldsmith, of Toledo. Mrs. Goldsmith experienced religion during the noted revival of 1832, and united with the Presbyterian church, of which denomination she remained a member until she came to Angola, in 1868. She was one of the seven original members of the Congregational Society, of this place, and was always very devoted to the church and to religious worship. Well might she have said, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." The funeral took place last Friday, from the Congregational church, an appropriate sermon being preached by the pastor, Rev. J. V. Hickmott. The remains were interred in the old cemetery. On 07 Aug 1833 she married Harvey Goldsmith who died 15 Oct 1869, age 60 years, 8 months and 21 days. They are buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Steuben County, IN, and Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, IN. Phebe was the daughter of Lot Sears, bon 02 Jul 1767 in Rochester, Plymouth, Mass., and died Feb 1848 in N.Y., N.Y. He married Lurancy (Butler) Sears, born in 1776 in Edgartown, Dukes County, Mass., and died 12 May 1859 in Newark, Wayne County, N.Y. They had at least 10 children, all born in Newark, Wayne County, N.Y: Achsah Sears, born 03 Oct 1811; Adelaide Sears, born 1813; Alice Sears, born 07, 1799; Emanuel Sears, born 27 Nov 1802; Henry Sears, born 27 Feb 1801; Hiram Sears, born 21 Jun 1808; James Coffin Sears, born 11 Feb 1804; Lucy L. Sears, born 18 Aug 1815; Phebe Ann Sears, born 08 may 1806; Rebecca Sears, born 22 Aug 1810. CHILDREN OF THE MARRIAGE OF PHEBE AND HARVEY: DGTR: Alice Alzore (Goldsmith) Lovejoy, born 16 Sep 1847 in N.Y. On 14 Mar 1867 in Steuben County, IN, she married Frank E. Lovejoy who died before 1880. SON: Edwin Goldsmith, born 07 Feb 1838, on 20 Nov 1866 married Emma Josephine (Spaulding) Goldsmith, born about 1842 in N.Y. DGTR: Emma Josephine (Goldsmith) Brown, 110 Jun 1843 - 24 Dec 1908. She married first, on 15 Nov 1866, German Brown, born10 Dec 1830 in Windham, VT; died 05 Aug 1878. She married her second husband on 04 May 1884, Omar I. Clark, 25 Jul 1832 - 11 Sep 1895, whose 1st wife was Frances Caroline (Goldsmith) Clark, who was a sister to his 1st wife and previously married to "Germ" Brown. Emma and German are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. Omar Clark is buried at Clark Cemetery, Steuben County, IN. DGTR: Frances Caroline (Goldsmith) Clark, 20 Dec 1834 - 22 Dec 1883, married Omar I. Clark, 25 Jul 1832 - 11 Sep 1895. Frances and Omar are buried at Clark Cemetery. SON: James Henry Goldsmith, 19 Mar 1836 - 01 May 1863, married Agnes Jane (Hicks) Goldsmith who died 01 May 1875. James is buried at Memorial Grove Cemetery, Steuben Co. IN.
